Former
world number 8 Janko Tipsarevic has pulled out of next weeks
Chennai Open in India. The Serbian who is the current defending
champion at the Tournament is recovering from a foot injury still. He
hasn't completed in a competitive match since Valencia in October
where he withdraw early in his match against Marcel Granollers. In a
statement on his website he said:-
“I
have had a difficult three months after injuring my heel. I felt I
would recover well in time for the Aircel Chennai Open but regret to
say that I will not be able to take part in the tournament. I
apologize to fans who have always supported me and waited to watch me
play during matches there Chennai was always my favourite tournament
to start the new season. I always felt very well in Chennai and love
this tournament. I really look forward to recovering quickly and
getting back to playing tennis soon.”
Serena
Williams has been named Associated Press female athlete of the
year. In what has been a remarkable year for the world number 1, she
had a win-loss of 78-4. In 2013 Williams has won 10 WTA titles, two
grand slam titles at the French and US Open and the year end
championship Tournament. She has also had her best winnig streak of 34 matches in a row. This has generated winnings of $12 million
for Williams which set a new record in women's tennis. These figures
definitely justifies Williams getting the title. This is the third
time she has got female athlete of the year - 2002, 2009 and now
2013.
Roger
Federer has pledge his support towards aussie Bernard Tomic after
his controversial season both on and off court. Tomic had a promising
start to his 2013 season by winning the Apia International in Sydney
but his performance gradually deteroirated during the rest of it with
a series of first round losses. In a interview with Fox Sports
Austraillian Federer said:-
"We
know he has a higher gear to go to and has great potential. It's
going to be one of those seasons where he (needs to) prove himself on
the tour and not lingering around No.50 in the world and move inside
the top 25.
"He
struggled all the way through which wasn't surprising after what
happened. I hope he can play a more simpler way mentally. It's hard
playing when distracted for a long period of the time.''
